It was announced at the Homes First Foundation AGM that Chantal Desloges, previous Foundation Secretary, will become the new Chair of the Foundation Board. Chantal Desloges was appointed to this position, and it carries a one year term until the annual general meeting of 2016 that will take place in June 2017. Chantal was elected on to the Homes First Society board in late 2011. Between the years 2012-2015, she was on the Nominating Committee and was elected as the Crossover Member between the Society and the Foundation on Sept. 17, 2013. In 2015, Chantal transitioned over to the Foundation Board full-time and took the place as Secretary.
Outside of Homes First, Chantal Desloges is an immigration and refugee lawyer. After spending 3 years as a law student working with marginalized immigrant communities at a community legal clinic, she lawyered with the firm of Green & Spiegel from 1999-2010, first as an associate and then as a partner. In July of 2010, she resigned partnership at Green & Spiegel in order to launch her own law firm called Desloges Law Group. Chantal taught Immigration Law at Osgoode Hall Law School in 2000/2001 and served as a Curriculum Coordinator and Lecturer for the Seneca College Immigration program from 1999-2010. In May, 2012, she was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for outstanding community service. In August, 2012, she was awarded the Canadian Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Pro Bono Award, for outstanding legal services benefiting the community.
The Foundation is also happy to announce the addition of four new Directors; Jean-Claude Killey, Hugh Meighen, Bruce Palmer, and Edvard Ryder.
At the Homes First Society AGM, they also welcomed five new Directors to their board; Marsha Haga, Ram Singh, Ange Valentini, Samantha Sukumar, and Kitty Tsang.
