“Glad to be giving back because it doesn’t always have to be Christmas to do that” said Knoxanne Wignall when she got to roll up her sleeves with her colleagues to feed residents at Strachan House. One of the 16 properties operated by Homes First, providing housing to the homeless.
“Isolation is one of the worst problems for people struggling with mental health and homelessness. I’m always happy to see when people come and get involved” said Lin McInnes, Community Housing Worker.
On February 22, 2017, the volunteers from the Flight Centre Travel Group dropped off an abundant supply of food collected from an inter-office food drive. They also prepared and served dinner to residents who are wrestling with the daily challenges of mental health and addictions. It was an evening full of compassion and empathy.
“This is fantastic food! I want to get straightened out. Coming over here helps me to take a break from being alone,” exclaimed one of the residents.
This was not the group’s first visit and they hope to continue to engage and inspire others to do the same. You too can join, and get your corporate employees to give.
“We all have a social responsibility to make sure that everyone has enough. I would send people to Homes First. It’s a great organization” shared Brian Shurman, Business Development with Stage and Screen, an affiliate of the Flight Centre Travel Group.
