Guess who’s coming to dinner?


That’s exactly what you’ll be wondering when you take part in Homes For Dinner, a night of mystery dinner parties happening all over Toronto on Saturday, November 18; all in support of raising funds aimed at helping Toronto’s homeless.

Your ticket gets you a seat at the table for a four-course dinner with wine (non-alcoholic beverages are also available), where your host could be a famous athlete, a familiar face from TV, an acclaimed writer, actor or comedian, or maybe just people who know how to throw a really good dinner party. Some dinner parties may also feature live music, readings or special guests: You never know what surprise could be in store!

Your night will begin with you and your fellow ticket holders gathering for a cocktail reception at Price Waterhouse Coopers. Here you’ll be handed an envelope that will reveal who your host is and where you’ll be dining. Then you’re on your way for a night full of interesting company, fabulous entertainment, and amazing food.

Homes For Dinner just keeps getting bigger and better every year; in 2016, the event raised more than $100,000. Billed as a “celebration of home to support those who don’t have one,” this special event is sure to be an unforgettable dining experience that you’ll be telling all your friends about afterward.

You’ll be breaking bread with strangers with a common cause – and for a very good one. On any given day as many as 5,000 Torontonians are homeless, including hundreds who “live rough” in Toronto’s parks, ravines and alleys or under bridges and highway overpasses. Homes First helps provide affordable, stable housing and support services to help break the cycle of homelessness. 

As an independent Canadian charity with three decades of leadership and innovation, Homes First pioneered the housing first methodology to assist those hardest to house. The guiding principle is that the vast majority of homeless people – even those with severe mental health and/or substance use issues – can successfully stay housed and off the street with appropriate housing and supports.

In addition to having a great night out in fascinating company, you’ll be helping Homes First provide the programs, services, and facilities that keep people housed and off the streets, with 16 properties in Toronto housing up to 600 people in need.

Tickets to Homes For Dinner are $200 each. If you think about it, it’s not that much more than the cost of dinner at a nice restaurant with a good bottle of wine, followed by tickets to a big-name concert, the symphony or a Leafs game. You can also gather a group of friends, family or colleagues and get 10 tickets for $1800. You’ll be issued a charitable tax receipt of $100 per ticket after the event.
