Every Monday since September, volunteer Gloria has brought a little serenity to Meegwetch. She leads a meditation group that is open to all residents in the common area.
Each session starts with a guided seated meditation where Gloria leads residents through a calm setting, such as sitting quietly at the bottom of the ocean and enjoying the waves as they rock you gently. This is followed by a walking meditation and ends with a silent practice.
Meditating has had a profound effect on residents who joined in. Says Linda, “Meditation relaxes you and your mind. It has gotten a lot easier to meditate since I started with Gloria in September.”
Another resident, Niamh, just moved to Meegwetch. She was delighted when she saw a sign advertising a meditation workshop. “I have anxiety and meditation has eased it. I’ve learned how to ‘put it on the shelf’.”
Thank you so much to Gloria and all our wonderful volunteers for the difference you make in our residents’ lives. We’re so grateful to you and all that you do!
