The State of Homelessness in Canada: First national report card points to housing first

The State of Homelessness in Canada: 2013, is the first extensive Canadian report card on homelessness and was launched this morning in Toronto.

As expected, “housing first” as an approach is named in the report as the most effective and immediate solution and that priority should be given to the chronically homeless.

A summary of the report by CBC can be read here.

Pictured is our Foundation Executive Director Marie MacCormack at today’s launch with Tim Richter, President & CEO of the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness, and Stephen Gaetz, Director of the Canadian Homelessness Research Network.  Richter concluded on an optimistic note:
“An end to homelessness is not only possible, it’s within our reach.”
