Nominated every year since the beginning of the Wanda’s Arts Awards in 2015, Geoff describes his current art state as having “six fingers in six different pies.”
Currently Geoff is working on multiple art pieces that make up three different series: a collection of self-portraits inspired by his interest in subatomic physics; a sequence of portraits of his sister, who he has a strained relationship with, titled “My Crying Sister” which depict her sobbing for her lost brother; and rough drawn ideas for paintings inspired by his favourite science fiction work.
“It is a very emotionally laden activity.”
A long-term resident, Geoff came to Homes First from a shelter over a decade ago. He was one of the first to sell a painting at the Homes First wall in the Riverside Arts Market. To him, having a stable home has helped him grow in his art.
“All my kudos go to the staff here, the privilege of being rescued from the shelter system and having a roof over my head, my own room.”
Having won the award in its inaugural year, Geoff is happy and humbled to be nominated again but hopes the award will go to another deserving resident.
